St Martin's Day is celebrated by many Catholic Christians to commemorate St Martin. It commemorates the legend of the Roman soldier who shared his coat with a beggar. Martin found his true calling and, as Bishop of Tours, became particularly involved in helping the poor and sick. Diwali is celebrated at the same time in India. For this reason, the DSND has transformed St Martin's Day into a Festival of Lights. When the Festival of Lights had to be spontaneously cancelled due to high air pollution, the DSND kindergarten and primary school spontaneously moved the lantern procession to the school. In class, the primary students learned about the importance of light in different cultures and religions. It became clear that everyone can be a light for others by being there for each other.
The exhibition about festivals of light in other religions can be seen in the hallway of the primary school. The lovingly made Diwali decorations also adorned the primary school building on this day. The children walked around the school with their lanterns and sang St Martin's songs. Of course, the walk through the dark cellar was particularly exciting. It was good to have the lanterns to light the way.
At the end there were buns and children's punch for everyone. Many thanks to the Parents Council for providing this.
