On Wednesday, 12 August 2026, the big day finally arrived: our new first graders celebrated the start of their school journey together with their families in our school auditorium. There was plenty of excitement, but the joy and anticipation of their very first day of school were surely even greater.
With cheerful songs, poems, and a dance, the students from Grades 2 to 4 gave the new first graders a warm welcome. Our Head of School, Mr van Neerven, and our Head of Primary School, Ms Faber, also welcomed the children and wished them a wonderful start to their school years.
A special highlight of the celebration was the presentation of the traditional Schultüten – colourful school cones filled with little surprises. These had been lovingly handmade by the students of Grade 3/4. The new first graders also received personal good wishes from the Grade 2 students, written on little four-leaf clovers to wish them happiness and good luck as they began this exciting new chapter. This lovely surprise brought many smiles to the children’s faces.
Of course, our new preschool children were not forgotten either. To celebrate the beginning of their preschool journey, they also received a small Schultüte of their own.
After the celebration, the first graders went to their new classroom with their class teacher, Ms Schach, where they experienced their very first lesson. Inspired by a picture book, each child created their own “courage marble” (Mutmurmel) to accompany them as they begin their school journey.
It was a wonderful first day filled with music, warm wishes, happy faces, and many special moments. A very warm welcome to DSND
