The project "Big dreams outside the city: astrophysics" was very well received by the pupils. This episode was led by Ms. Demeyere and Mr. Textores. It started with a brief historical review of the debate about what is at the center of our solar system: Earth or Sun? The focus was then placed on today's astrophysics by working out various ways of tracking down and discovering planets outside our solar system, the so-called exoplanets. Even the Doppler effect, which explains the familiar sound of an ambulance driving by, is used in research! Other topics included black holes, measuring distances in space, classifying stars according to their brightness and the course of our sun in its lifetime. Highlights included a visit to the Nehru Planetarium and watching and understanding the movie "Interstellar".
