Upon our arrival, we were kindly welcomed. First, there was a brief rehearsal in the auditorium where all students presenting had the opportunity to prepare on stage. Afterward, we met with the students from Lycée Français International de Delhi for a joint lunch. During this time, we exchanged ideas in a relaxed atmosphere, and some of us took the opportunity to play a match of table football.
After the lunch break, we returned to the auditorium where the event began. The students from the French School first presented a selection of books written by Holocaust survivors in their original languages. Then, we introduced the book Malka Mai and discussed our impressions and questions regarding the work. Particularly moving was the performance by a group of students from a school for people with disabilities who accompanied the Remembrance Day with various songs.
A British student presented the book Night by Elie Wiesel, which depicts the horrors of the Holocaust based on personal experiences. After that, we watched a short, very impactful film about Anne Frank which was both informative and emotionally touching.
Following the presentations, a small exhibition was opened, focusing on the lives of people who helped the Jews during World War II. This exhibition was especially enlightening and provided insights into the courageous acts of individuals who resisted the Nazi regime. Thus the event found an adequate ending and each of us gained valuable impressions and new perspectives.
I found our participation in the Holocaust Remembrance Day to be an important and educational experience. I am sure that everyone in our class has learned something new.
