During the weeks October 18th to 29th the kindergarten was engaged in a project phase on the topic of India. We address this theme in the kindergarten program every year because it helps the children to gain a better insight into the special culture of our host country. This year the focus was on Diwali, the “Festival of Lights” and this was a perfect transition from the previous St. Martin's theme. Project phase in kindergarten means that all kindergarten children, from the very little ones to the bigger ones, gain an intensive learning experiences around a defined topic for a certain period of time .Each day started with the morning circle with all the kindergarten children to set the mood for the topic. There we sang a song specially composed about the Ramayana. We also tried out yoga poses, practiced Indian dances, heard exciting stories and of course had lots of lively questions and answers sessions on the topic. Different handicraft techniques were tried out at the respective level of the children, there was Indian food and the children could wear their Indian clothes. A trip to the Sunder Nursery with its numerous monuments and the typical Indian vegetation further deepened the experience. Now we’ll have autumn holidays and we wish all families a good time and a Happy Diwali.
