Raksha Bandhan also simply called Rakhi, is an important Hindu holiday that takes place on a full moon day in the month of Shravana according to the Hindu lunar calendar. It is the festival of sibling bonding. Ritually, women and girls tie a blessed colourful ribbon around their brother's right wrist and a blessing dot is drawn on his forehead. The brother usually presents a small gift and promises his sister support and protection in life. All the children of the primary school braided bracelets today and tied them around the right wrist of their buddies. Two pupils from class 3/4 explained the meaning of this important celebration to the younger pupils. The children also braided bracelets enthusiastically during recess.
