السلام عليكم! As-salamu Aleikum!
As part of our carnival project, we have delved deeply into Arab culture. We have assigned various traditional clothing norms to some Arab cultures and countries and made ourselves aware of the sometimes marginal differences. Out of respect for cultural appropriation, we deliberately refrained from dressing up for the carnival parade at the school festival and instead focused on getting to know and understanding various Arab traditions.
A special highlight was the engagement with Arabic script: We studied some of the artistic letters, allowing the students to read and write some words. Additionally, we got to know the traditional strategy game Mancala and played exciting matches. We also went on a culinary journey: Together, we prepared Çiğ Köfte, a spicy specialty that is popular in many Arab and Turkish regions.
The project not only gave us a lot of fun but also provided valuable insight into a fascinating culture.
