On Monday, the 14th of August, Dr. Benno Böer, the UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) commissioner of the department in natural sciences, invited us for an exchange of ideas. The meeting took place in the UNESCO building in New Delhi, where five other representatives from private Indian schools, including ours, gathered. Representatives of DSND were a teacher, a student from the 10th grade and a DSND alumna.
The agenda of the participants and the UNESCO was to inform and be informed about the so-called Green-Academies, to form partnerships that are as long term as possible. The Green Academies have the goal to promote environmental protection and climate friendliness. Here Dr. Benno Böer, who is a very experienced and globally active project manager in the field of environmental science, enlightened us about one of his many environmental fields - the natural science education. It was made descriptive through presentations and posters, which we also received on a pen drive. Afterwards, we discussed enthusiastically the problems of the current climate change crisis, their triggers and concrete solutions. Biology teachers, ecology teachers and principals presented, how they already engage to educate in the area of environmental protection and provide consciousness to take action.
We thank a lot Dr. Benno Böer and the UNESCO for their hospitality and the inclusion of all schools. It was very informative and stimulating.
Furthermore, we hope that we, at DSND, can bring in the addressed topics, contribute to the environmental protection and take action against climate change.
