This year, our primary school classes experienced something very special: they were allowed to help with the wheat harvest! Under the expert guidance of the farmers, the children cut the wheat by hand. They were able to learn how labour-intensive and valuable the harvesting of grain is. The conversation encouraged respect for the farmers, who work without heavy machinery and chemicals. They also learnt about many different trees, such as the mango, eucalyptus, mulberry and lemon tree.
In addition to the harvest, they were also allowed to look after the animals on the school farm. The children learnt how to handle rabbits properly and were also allowed to feed the geese and chickens. Observing the hamster also put the children in a good mood.
The children were given homemade mustard oil as a souvenir.
